Working in UAE heat
Outdoor workers in the UAE face high temperatures and humidity for much of the year. Workwear cannot replace heat-stress controls such as rest breaks, shade and hydration, and the UAE's seasonal midday work restrictions for outdoor labour, but the right garments make a working day more manageable.
- Lighter fabric weights where the role allows, balanced against durability.
- Moisture-wicking and quick-drying fabrics, typically polyester or polyester-rich blends for tops.
- Ventilation: mesh panels at the back or underarm, vented yokes and looser cuts that let air move.
- Light colours absorb less heat than dark ones, though they show dirt more; mid-tones are a common compromise.
- Sun coverage: long sleeves in breathable fabric and caps can protect skin without trapping heat.

Durability and laundering
Workwear is washed often and handled roughly. Durability comes from fabric construction, stitching and the choice of trims, not only from fabric weight.
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Twill, drill or ripstop weaves | Resist abrasion and tearing better than plain lightweight weaves |
| Poly-cotton blends | Combine cotton comfort with polyester strength and shape retention |
| Triple-stitched or bar-tacked stress points | Reduce seam failure at pockets, crotch and belt loops |
| Reinforced knees and pocket edges | Extend life where wear concentrates |
| Metal or heavy-duty plastic zips and studs | Survive industrial laundering better than light trims |
| Colourfast dyes | Help garments keep a consistent appearance across the team |
If garments go through industrial laundry, tell us the wash temperature and process at enquiry stage. It affects which fabrics, branding methods and reflective tapes are appropriate.
Safety standards: what to ask for
Some workwear is protective equipment and is designed and tested to recognised standards. For example, EN ISO 20471 covers high-visibility clothing, and other standards cover flame-resistant, welding or anti-static garments. Your HSE team or client site rules will specify which standards apply.
Branding on protective garments needs care. Large prints can cover reflective or fluorescent areas, and some decoration methods may not be appropriate for flame-resistant fabrics. Confirm placement with whoever is responsible for compliance.
Branding workwear
- Embroidery is durable on heavier fabrics such as drill trousers, coveralls and jackets.
- Large back prints help identify staff on site or in a yard; check the method suits the fabric and laundering.
- Reflective or heat-applied transfers can add visibility but are not a substitute for certified hi-vis garments.
- Name or ID personalisation helps with site access and accountability.
See logo embroidery and screen printing for method-specific guidance.

Frequently asked questions
What fabric is best for outdoor workers in the UAE?
For tops, lightweight moisture-wicking polyester or polyester-rich blends are common. For trousers and coveralls, a poly-cotton twill or ripstop balances comfort and durability. The right choice depends on the work, laundering and any protective requirements.
Is your high-visibility workwear certified?
Certification belongs to a specific garment. Ask for the certificate or declaration of conformity for the exact garment on your quotation, and confirm it covers the colour and class you need.
Can logos be added to hi-vis or protective garments?
Usually, yes, in suitable positions and with suitable methods. Branding must not cover reflective tape or reduce fluorescent area below what the standard requires, and the method must suit the fabric.
Can workwear survive industrial laundering?
Many workwear fabrics and trims are designed for it, but not all branding methods are. Tell us your laundering process so fabrics, trims and decoration can be matched to it.
