Why we do not publish one size chart
How to measure
Use a soft tape measure and record measurements in centimetres. Measure over light clothing, keep the tape level and snug but not tight, and ask a colleague to help.
| Measurement | How to take it | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Chest | Around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, tape level across the back | Shirts, polos, T-shirts, jackets, coats |
| Waist | Around the natural waist, or where trousers are usually worn, without pulling in | Trousers, skirts, coveralls |
| Hip | Around the fullest part of the hips and seat, feet together | Trousers, skirts, tunics |
| Inseam | From the crotch to the desired hem length along the inside leg, ideally on a well-fitting pair of trousers | Trousers, coveralls |
| Sleeve | From the centre back of the neck, over the shoulder and down to the wrist with the arm slightly bent | Long-sleeved shirts, jackets |
| Neck | Around the base of the neck where a collar sits, with a finger's space under the tape | Formal shirts with collar sizes |
| Height | Standing straight without shoes | Coveralls, scrubs, length guidance |
A simpler and often more reliable method for knitwear is to measure a garment the person already wears comfortably: lay it flat and measure across the chest from armpit to armpit, and from the high shoulder point to the hem. Compare these with the garment measurements on the quoted size chart.
Running a size collection across your staff
- Choose the method: size sample sets for staff to try on (most accurate), self-measurement against the size chart, or line-manager estimates for urgent orders.
- Prepare a simple form or spreadsheet with name, employee ID, department, site, garment and size, plus any fit notes.
- Set a deadline that leaves time before production; late size returns are a common cause of delay.
- Appoint one coordinator per site or department to chase missing entries.
- Review outliers: sizes outside the standard range may need special arrangements, so flag them early.
- Lock the list and share it as the final size breakdown for production.
Where size sample sets are available they make the biggest difference. Whether they can be provided for your order is confirmed on the quotation.
Fit types, unisex and gendered fits
| Fit | Description | Considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Regular or classic | Straight cut with room through chest and waist | Suits most body types and active roles |
| Slim or tailored | Closer through the body and sleeves | Smart look; can be restrictive and warm for active roles |
| Relaxed | Generous cut, longer and wider | Comfort and airflow; useful for heat and modest-fit needs |
Unisex garments use one pattern for everyone. They simplify stock but often fit women less well across the shoulders, bust and hips. Gendered cuts, sometimes called men's and women's fits, give a better fit for many staff but add a size range to manage. A common compromise is unisex T-shirts and caps with gendered shirts, polos and trousers.
Modest-fit considerations
Many UAE workplaces offer modest-fit options. Consider longer sleeves or sleeve extensions, longer tunic lengths, looser cuts, high necklines, full-length skirts or trousers, and hijab-compatible designs in matching uniform colours. Include these options in the size collection so employees can choose them at the outset.

Use this structure to summarise your size collection for each garment. Add spares as a separate column so the reserve is visible.

When staff are between sizes
- For active or outdoor roles, choose the larger size for movement and airflow.
- For tailored garments, fit the shoulders or chest first; sleeves and hems can sometimes be adjusted.
- For trousers, fit the hip and seat first; waist adjustments are easier than hip adjustments.
- Remember shrinkage: cotton-rich garments may shrink slightly after the first washes.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find the size chart for a specific garment?
The size chart for each garment is supplied with the quotation, since measurements vary by garment and maker.
Should we choose unisex or men's and women's fits?
Unisex simplifies stock and suits T-shirts and outerwear. Gendered fits usually work better for shirts, polos and trousers. Many organisations combine both.
Can staff try sizes before we order?
Size sample sets are the most accurate method of collecting sizes. Whether they can be provided for your order, and on what terms, is confirmed on the quotation.
What if some employees need sizes outside the standard range?
Flag them early in the size collection. Extended sizes or made-to-measure arrangements may be possible depending on the garment, and are confirmed in writing.
